The Finals Weekend

September 2018

The glorious sunny weather that was arranged by our Competition Secretary Pat Smith set the scene for another exciting Finals Weekend. There were some very close matches to entertain the spectators and as usual the bowlers rose to the occasion with plenty of exceptional shots being played.

On Saturday

William Wheeler took the Men’s Singles title against Keith Pulling.

The Ladies 100 Up was won by Sally Pulling against Chris Andrews.

The Men’s Pairs trophy went to Mike Cooke and Mac Maclean who played John Brand and Dave Ellis.

There was a win on the noisiest rink of the weekend for Bobby Bennett and Edie Vine against William Wheeler and Doreen Ryall in the Mixed Pairs.

Another beautiful day on Sunday, bought out a slightly higher audience who enjoyed more superb bowling including two very tight matches which “The Crowd” really got involved in.

The Australian Pairs first set was a draw and in the second set the two teams were equal going in to the last end. After a nail-biting finish Jenny Bennett and Keith Pulling took the game by one shot against Jim Brown and Steve Carter.

Tension rose as a cat and mouse ladies two woods, again all equal on the last end, gave Julie Wildman the winning shot against Chris Andrews.

William Wheeler took the Men’s Two Woods against Mike Cooke and William also won The Men’s 100 Up against Peter Baker

Unfortunately due to an injury one of our finalists was unable to hold a bowl, so the ladies singles and the ladies pairs will be played later in the week.

The Ladies Singles was played on Wednesday afternoon after a very wet start to the day, which Christine Andrews won against Kathy Pease.

The Ladies Pairs took place in more sunshine on Friday morning and Chris Andrews and Sally Pulling pulled back from 4 to 11 down to take the game from Frances Baker and Kathy Pease.

There is an enormous amount of organisation Pat Smith has to put in to make this weekend run smoothly, not just arranging the weather, so especially to him but also all the others who were helping out, a huge thank you from all the bowlers and spectators for making it happen.
